Lenses

We carry an excellent choice of lenses which include:

Single-vision lenses

The single-vision lens is used to correct many visual defects
e.g. short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.

Bifocals and Trifocals

Bifocal lenses are split into two sections; the upper part is for distance vision and the lower part for near vision. They are usually prescribed for people over the age of 40 whose focusing ability has declined due to presbyopia.

Progressive lenses

Progressive lenses are used for correcting presbyopia but unlike bifocal lenses have no visible dividing lines between the different corrections. They are a continuos gradient lens which focuses progressively closer as one looks down through the lens

Prescription sunglasses

Whatever your prescription, it is important to protect your eyes against excessive ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Prescription sunglasses can be made with single-vision, bifocal or progressive lens designs to offer the same standard of protection as non-prescription sunglasses.

Safety and sports glasses

Special lenses and frames incorporating eye protection are available for a variety of safety and recreational uses.

Anti-reflection coating

Spectacle lenses can be provided with anti-reflection coatings which virtually eliminate distracting reflections off the lens surfaces. Reducing reflected light is particularly helpful for computer users and for night driving. Anti-reflection coatings also improve the cosmetic appearance of your glasses and can make thick lenses look thinner.

Scratch-resistant / hard coating

All of our plastic lenses are supplied with a hard coating as standard to reduce scratching. These coatings help extend the life of your spectacles, although no coating can prevent all scratches.

Photochromatic Lenses (e.g. Transition Lenses)

Photochromatic or sun sensitive lenses react to light so that indoors or in dull conditions they have a light tint, and in bright light they darken to eliminate glare and protect the eyes against UV.

HOYA “TrueSight” Dispensing System

My Optical is excited to offer to our patients the very latest spectacle lens technology using the HOYA “Truesight” dispensing system.

Within many optical practices, measurements are taken manually. “TrueSight” precisely records important measurements that are required to produce a pair of spectacles.

“TrueSight” is a state-of-the-art dispensing system that enables the delivery of customised and personalised lenses offering a new and interactive experience. The system was developed to provide an intelligent and full 3D measuring system to make fast, accurate and reliable lens measurements.

TrueSight’s many functions include superimposing eyewear of various styles along with different lens options (such as anti-reflective coating, tinting colours) on a patient image, allowing you to understand how different eyewear and lens options would look. We look forward to showing you the benefits of this new technology at your next visit.
